Join NUS Press and University of Nottingham Malaysia for a discussion of Sandeep Ray’s “Celluloid Colony: Locating History and Ethnography in Early Dutch Colonial Films of Indonesia” (NUS Press, 2021). The book uses the case of Dutch colonial films in Indonesia to show how a critically-, historically- and cinematically-informed reading of colonial film in the archive can be a powerful and unexpected source, and one more easily accessible today via digitisation.

Sandeep will be joined by Lisabona Rahman and Thomas Barker. Peter Schoppert, Director of NUS Press, will moderate the discussion.
